1978-S Jefferson Nickel – Proof – San Francisco Mint
Offered here is a 1978-S Jefferson Nickel Proof, struck at the San Francisco Mint as part of the 1978 U.S. Proof Set.
The obverse features the familiar portrait of Thomas Jefferson, with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “LIBERTY,” and the date 1978. The “S” mint mark is clearly visible, identifying this coin as a San Francisco issue.
The reverse displays Monticello, Jefferson’s historic Virginia home, with sharply defined architectural details surrounded by “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “MONTICELLO,” “FIVE CENTS,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
This example displays the attractive characteristics associated with a proof striking, including reflective, mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Some coloration, toning, haze, spots, or minor surface imperfections may be visible in the photographs.
