1854-O Seated Liberty Half Dime – With Arrows – New Orleans Mint – 90% Silver
Offered here is an 1854-O Seated Liberty Half Dime with Arrows, struck at the historic New Orleans Mint. This classic mid-19th-century U.S. silver coin features the short-lived Arrows at Date design, used to indicate a reduction in the coin's silver weight following the Coinage Act of 1853.
The obverse depicts Liberty seated on a rock holding a shield and Liberty pole, surrounded by stars. The date 1854 appears below with an arrow on each side of the date. The reverse features “HALF DIME” within a wreath, surrounded by “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The “O” mint mark beneath the wreath identifies this coin as a New Orleans issue.
This example is heavily circulated, with substantial wear across Liberty and portions of the surrounding obverse details. The reverse remains readily identifiable, with the denomination, wreath and New Orleans mint mark visible. The surfaces exhibit scratches, marks and other characteristics consistent with extensive circulation. Obverse damage.
