Becky & Rick at 2023 Harrisburg Coin Show

No Small Change Programs™ (501c3 non-profit) were presented by Rebecca Rush (Talisman) and Rick Lank (Coiner) at the Harrisburg Coin Club Coin Show on Friday, September 15th, 2023.

Rick Lank and Rebecca Rush at their tables at the 2023 HCC coin show where they answered questions about their work and held book signings.

Planned stories highlighted the many dramatic changes that happened to Money and Banking because of the Civil War, changes that shape our connections to coins, currency, and memorabilia even today.

One such story was that of two major numismatic finds here in the US. One discovery was a small group of coins found in a West Point time capsule buried in 1828. The other was a collection of 700 Civil War era gold coins found in a farmer’s cornfield.

A special feature was, “Uncle Billy was a Banker,”, an author presentation by Mr.  Lank about the new book. “Uncle Billy” was the nickname of the famous Civil War Union General William T. Sherman.  The book covers Sherman’s pre-War career as a Banker and Gold Rush observer, and the catastrophic impact the sinking of the S.S. Central America (the “Ship of Gold”) had on both Sherman’s career and the 1857 Banking System.

“Uncle Billy” Was a Banker:  The Escapades of Young William T. Sherman (see below).

This new book contains 50 pages and is loaded with color photos!

====================================================================== Ben Franklin at the Harrisburg Coin Show

Patrick McBride has been portraying Benjamin Franklin for the past five years.  He has appeared at many living history events and various coin shows including the recent 2022 ANA WFM in Rosemont, IL, the Central States Numismatic Society Convention held in Schaumburg, IL, and FUN Coin Shows held each January in Orlando, Fl. His Franklin lectures are a regular part of the PAN Coin Shows. They are well received and very popular.  He has an uncanny resemblance and demeanor similar to our famous founding father.
